What Do You Mean by Trauma?

What is Trauma? At its root, trauma means wound; an injury that is often caused by violence, loss, or some distressing event that rocks your foundation. It disrupts flow. It disrupts momentum. It can crush your sense of safety, happiness, love, and hope.

The crumble manifests itself in physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual ways. Being traumatized changes your perspective. No one is immune.

Chronic stress is like trauma’s little sister. It wants to be where you are. It is unrelenting; sometimes subtle sometimes nagging but always there. And when left unattended will wreak havoc in your organization.

Being able to respond in a healthy way to trauma and chronic stress will increase resilience and help transform stress and trauma into growth and innovation.

Post traumatic growth is possible when you honor and attend to the needs of your people.

What is a Trauma Informed Workplace?

A TI workplace is one where there is a shared understanding of the impact of trauma on people and systems so that you are more attuned to the underlying factors that disrupt your organization.

I provide an integrated approach to guide you through the process of revealing the impact of in order to create a healthier functioning work environment which will enhance the culture and productivity of your organization.

Organizations are living systems. They are impacted by stress and trauma in similar ways that an individual is. They become dysregulated and dysfunctional when the needs of the individuals in the system are not being met.

This approach unites theory, best practices from relationship-based psychology, care, humor, love, and accessible strategies to dissolve obstacles in order to build resilience in difficult times.

Beth and Marisol stepped in to provide a great overview of mental wellness and self-care to our staff, topics that our team really wanted to delve into since moving to a remote work environment due to the COVID pandemic. This was the first time that we tackled these topics as a group, and we’re glad we did. Their tailored approach, expertise and compassion really helped open lines of communications on mental wellness, work/life balance and therapy as a useful tool for people who are needing it during this very trying time. It was extremely helpful to have professionals propel our staff conversations on topics that may be difficult for some to broach. With their guidance and encouragement, these topics have remained central to our ongoing staff meeting agendas moving forward.
